This study aims to modify the design of the educational environment to apply active learning strategies in the elementary grades of the government primary schools in Jeddah. The researcher has used the descriptive analytical method. The sample of the study consisted of (137) government primary schools in Jeddah as well as all the female teachers and supervisors of the first and second primary grades of the sample schools. Two tools were used, namely a questionnaire for female teachers and supervisors, and a note card related to field visits by the researcher. All the collected data were analyzed quantitatively using repetitions, percentages, averages, and standard deviations. The study reached a set of results, namely: the ability to modify the design of the educational environment in the elementary grades of government schools, despite the different types of the school buildings (governmental and rented) to suit the application of active learning strategies. The primary classes teachers are supposed to highly apply the active learning strategies despite the density of the female learners in the educational environment, but they often resort to choosing the strategy that is not appropriate for the environment or the number of the female learners, because it is not well organized for the environment. In fact, the educational environments in the early grades is appropriate for applying active learning strategies. From the point of view of the female teachers and supervisors, the most important obstacle that impedes female teachers from applying strategies is the lack of internet connection within the educational environment. In light of these results, the study recommended a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: the necessity of reorganizing the educational environment in order to achieve the application of active learning strategies to suit the number of female students and the area of the educational environment. |
