Abstract
:
The study aimed to identify the extent to which psychological flow mediates the relationship between professional affiliation and counseling competency on a sample of educational counselors in Saudi Arabia, as well as the relationship between psychological flow, professional affiliation, and counseling competency. also aimed to determine the level of these factors and identify differences in the counseling competency of the sample based on experience. The descriptive method was used due to its appropriate to the study. The measures of the study were the flow state in the work environment scale of Bakker (2005), translatedbySalimandAbuHalawa(2020),theprofessionalaffiliationscaleofeducational counselors of Awwad (2013), and the counseling competency scale of Al-Kishki and Al- Zahrani (2019). The study was conducted on an available purposive sample of (343) counselors from different regions of Saudi Arabia. The study concluded that psychological flow was partially mediates the relationship between professional affiliation and counseling competency on a sample of educational counselors in Saudi Arabia with a significance value (0.01). The study also found a correlation between psychological flow and professional affiliation with a value of (.40); a correlation between professional affiliation and counseling competency with a value of (.58); and a correlation between psychological flow and counseling competency with a value of (.53). The study found that the levels of psychological flow, professional affiliation, and counseling competency were high, as the mean of psychological flow was (4.26) with a standard deviation of (.49), professionalaffiliationmeanwas(2.46)withastandarddeviationof(.21)andcounseling competency mean was (3.64) with a standard deviation of (.34). The study also discovered differences in counseling competency for those with higher experience, more than 10 years, with a significance value of less than (0.05). The study recommended that school administrations create a comfortable environment for their staff to ensure performance quality. It also recommended conducting applied training courses on psychological flow and professional affiliation. The study suggested annual national ministerial competitions between counselors to shed light on their high competences and support it.
