Introduction & Objectives: Musculoskeletal disorders involve pain, paresthesia, and weakness linked to a wide range of various occupations. In the healthcare sector, work-related musculoskeletal disorders are responsible for the high rate of absence from work. There are many risk factors to which laboratory workers are exposed. The study aimed to investigate the pervasiveness of musculoskeletal disorders and risk factors for developing them among clinical laboratory technicians working in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 167 laboratory technicians who were working in Taif, Saudi Arabia from March 2021 to July 2021. Both the Standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (SNMQ) and the Dutch Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (DMQ) were used to examine the prevalence of
musculoskeletal disorders symptoms, musculoskeletal workload, and physical risk factors.
Results: The overall prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the last 12-month period at anybody's site was 71.3%. The reported symptoms were mainly linked to the lower back (52.1%), neck (48.5%), shoulders (40.7%), and upper back (33.5%). For the association between the type of work and tasks among clinical laboratory workers according to the presence of musculoskeletal disorders, significant relationships (P < 0.05) were found between workers who stand for long periods, work in the same posture for long periods, perform tasks that require awkward position, tasks require repetitive movements and musculoskeletal disorders.
