Abstract
:
Marine tunicates (Ascidians) are a very attractive and abundant source of secondary metabolites with chemical diversity and biological activity. Chemical analysis of the Red Sea tunicate Didemnum species crude extract led to the isolation of a new compound, N-diazenylinosine (1), together with acetamide (2), homarine (3), 2'-deoxyuridine (4), 2'-deoxyadenosine (5), and thymidine (6). The structural explanation of the isolated compounds was accomplished using 1D (1H and 13C) and 2D (1H–1H COSY, HSQC, and HMBC) NMR, mass spectra, and by comparison with the data of the known compounds in the literature. The compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects toward three cell lines. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited strong growth-inhibition against effect toward the MCF-7 cell line with IC50 values of 0.5974 and 6.574 μM, respectively. Additionally, all compounds exhibited strong inhibitory activity against SW1222 and PC-3 cell lines compared with doxorubicin.
