Despite the advances of protective software technology such as antivirus and rewalls in eliminating viruses, these techniques are not always eective against new viruses. Thus, attempts to understand the dynamics of computer viruses propagation is an essential matter to increase the safety and reliability in com- puter networks. In this thesis, we construct and analyze four mathematical mod- els in the form of ordinary dierential equations in order to examine the dynamics of computer viruses. The thesis seeks to gain insight on which strategies are successful in remov- ing or containing the virus prevalence to an acceptable level. First, we build a mathematical model to study the impact of external removable devices on a net- work with heterogeneous immunity computers (model 1). The model describes the dynamics between weak, strong, infected computers and susceptible, infected removable media. Analytical investigations of the model produce two equilib- rium points: virus-free and endemic. Moreover, the local and global stabilities of both equilibria are investigated. The existence and stability conditions of the equilibrium points depend primarily on the basic reproduction number (R0) of the model. Furthermore, numerical simulations to substantiate the analytical results are performed. Also, sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine critical parameters that lead to strategies to control the dissipation of viruses. Then, we investigate the impact of external computers and removable devices on virus spread in a heterogeneous immunity network (model 2). Theoretical analysis reveals the existence of a unique viral equilibrium that is locally and globally asymptotically stable with no criteria. This result implies that eforts to eliminate viruses are not possible. Therefore, sensitivity analysis is performed to have more insight on parameters impact on virus prevalence.
