Abstract
:
Heritage is “a legacy that we can measure the originality of people through.” A nation’s civilization and future are created by what they inherited from their ancestors and the ability of their heirs to preserve. In line with Saudi Arabia vision for 2030, we should preserve heritage with the momentum of fashions that constantly affect our society. The objective of the study is to identify the most important aesthetic features of traditional men’s fashion in Asir region in southwestern Saudi Arabia and to analyze fashion in terms of description, names, forms, types, occasions of wearing it, and decorations in those costumes. The study also examines the development of external men’s fashion designs that maintain the traditional character of men’s fashion in Asir using computer programs (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop) specialized in drawing and design to highlight the aesthetic aspects of the designs presented. Twelve innovative men’s fashion designs were derived from traditional men’s fashion based on the heritage of Asir to attract today’s young people. The research followed the analytical descriptive approach by analyzing traditional men’s costume in the geographic area and determining its aesthetics in enriching modern men’s fashion. The research tools utilized are personal interviews during field visits and two questionnaires to gather opinions toward the 12 proposed designs from a sample of specialists (10 individuals) in the field of clothing and textiles and a group of gentlemen consumers aged 18–35 (80 individuals). The results showed that there are statistically significant differences among the 12 designs proposed by computer design. These differences favored the eighth design as judged by the two study samples in achieving aesthetics and functionality. The recommendations of the research are to conduct further studies that combine the art of decorative heritage of different regions of Saudi Arabia and the art of fashion design.
