university hospital in Jeddah for the last two decades. The number of patients with drug resistance increased over the years.
The objective of this study was to describe the profiles of HIV-1 resistance mutations in HIV-infected patients at King Abdulaziz University hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from January 2014 through December 2017.
Methods: All patients with virological failure in the study period underwent genotyping susceptibility testing. Virological failure was defined as viral load of more than 1000 copies/mL after at least 6 months of ART.
Results: Forty-one patients were included in this study. Forty-six percent of patients were Saudi and twenty-four percent were Yemeni. Our results are different from what is internationally reported, these differences cause confusion to physicians and technicians, because patients are not responding the way they should. Mutations in Pro gene in the study patients were M36I, R41K, H69K, L89M and I93L in descending order of frequency. While mutations found in the RT gene in study patients were V35T, R211K, V245Q, D177E, Q207E, T200A, and K122E in descending order of frequency. |
