Abstract
:
Criminal Protection for Informants and Witnesses in the Saudi Legal System "A Comparative Study" Done by: Omaimah Mohammed Ayoub Alsaati Supervised by Dr. Muhamad Hamid Almazmumi. The study examines criminal protection available for informants and witnesses in the Saudi legal system. Informants and witnesses are vital components of an effective criminal justice system. Unfortunately, these key benefactors to law enforcement officials and prosecutorial authorities often face a magnitude of abuse and intimidation when they testify or report crimes. Currently, in the Saudi legal system, there is no law to protect informants and witnesses. As such, the study aims to investigate and identify the need for the Saudi legislator to adopt a specific law that protects these important contributors to criminal justice. The study undertakes both a comparative and analytical approach. It highlights the legal measures adopted at the international, regional and national level that protect informants and witnesses to continue their important work to criminal justice. The study also seeks to determine Shariahs perspective on the importance of protecting these individuals. Some of the most important recommendations adopted in this study include, the Saudi judicial authorities must adopt and implement specific measures that aim to protect informants and witnesses, adopt specific criteria and restrictions for the beneficiaries of this protection, and impose strict punishments against those who violate the laws adopted.
