Abstract
:
The important step in the design of any power system protection is the coordination of all over current protective relays in the network. When a short circuit or an abnormal power flow occurs for a sustained period, the protective devices should react to isolate the faulty section with minimum disruption to the balanced system. Therefore, the coordination of over current relay settings reduce the number of power units and sections that should be off. The accurate determination of the optimum over current coordination is essential to get maximum reliability and stability of the power system. This research utilizes the over current relays to find relay settings coordination studies by using ASPEN software for evaluating the over current relay coordination in different system of voltages for the Western Region of Electricity Power Network. This is the first time to use ASPEN software to complete relay settings coordination in the three different systems of voltages i.e. 380kV, 110kV, and 13.8kV. The ASPEN software has been tested with some solved examples, and showed identical results.
