Abstract
:
The study discussed cell phone applications in providing information services in university libraries. The study problem was presented in the following question: what is the reality of using cell phone in providing information services in university libraries and what are the factors affecting such use? The study community included all deanships of public university libraries in total number of 24 deanships. The researcher used the descriptive survey approach. In addition, the researcher used questionnaire, interview, and review list as tools to gather data. The study revealed several results including: 70.8 % of Saudi university libraries do not use cell phone in providing information services. The most significant reasons led to lack of using cell phone in Saudi university libraries represented in the absence of training and awareness for employee about the importance of technology and how to deal with it. According to the study results, the researcher provided certain recommendation including: the necessity to allocate a budget to develop hardware and software needed to apply cell phone technology in providing information services in libraries. The study also recommended the necessity to provide training courses to university libraries personnel in the field of cell phone applications and information services.
