The present study is descriptive, and it mainly aims to explore the trends of Saudi youth towards using the Internet. It also aims to uncover the personal and familial variables as well as the characteristics and the fields of using the Internet that affect the attitudes of the Saudi youth towards the Internet. The study is based on the social survey approach by sampling, and applied a sample of 1559 college students at Qassim University in Qassim governorate, using the method of a proportionate distribution in selecting a stratified random sample of the original community study. The sample is based on the division of its categories (i.e., the type of college, and the grade) and the data of the study are mainly collected by the main tool of questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to detect the trends of the Saudi youth towards using the Internet, and the consistency with its knowledge content in its various dimensions; namely, the seven dimensions that have been identified in the study: cultural, ethical, social positive values, sociability, familial, and university education. However, this consistency is variable and differs in degree of its sharpness, deepness, and severity according to the type and nature of the dimension itself. It seems that, the trends of the Saudi youth are more consistent with internet in the fields related to cultural, ethical, social positive values, sociability dimensions when they are compared to familial, university, and education dimensions which seem less consistent with positivity. Depending on what the study showed in the theoretical part and concluded in the field application, it has proposed a number of recommendations, including the call for applying special educational courses on how to deal best with the Internet in various stages of public education, working with all possible means to clarify the importance of the role of family in promoting the child awareness through planting and developing values, attitudes, principles and ethics, urging and encouraging the perspective authorities, Saudi universities, and research centers to focus on studying the reality of the Internet in Saudi society and the problems associated with such use and generously fund. |
