Abstract : Acetylenic alcohols were synthesized from 3-chloro-4,5-dihydrofuran and its 2-alkyl derivatives, and 5-chloro-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran and its 6-alkyl derivatives via base catalyzed β-elimination using sodium metal in THF. Also, alkylation followed by hydrolysis of the dilithium salt of ω-hydroxy-alk-1-ynes in THF/HMPT gives the corresponding long chain acetylenic alcohols
