Abstract
:
The effect of dexamhetamine sulphate as a CNS stimulant drug on the levels of some excitatory and inhibitort amino acids on brain tissue of albino rat was studied.The study also includes the determination of the activity of some enzymes (GOT and GPT) and the total protein content of brain tissue. It was found that the daily injection of dexamphetamine sulphate at a dose level of 0.175 mg/100 g body weight produced a marked increase in the concentration of brain glutamine, aspartic acid, asparagine, GABA, glycine, alanine and taurine at most of the tested periods, however, glutamic acid fluctuated between insignificant decrease and increase. After stopping the injection, a general decrease in the concentration of all the studied amino acids was recorded The present data also showed that there was a more highly insignificant decrease in the activity of brain GOT and more highly significant increase of GPT activity which continued even after stopping the injection It was also found that dexamphetamine sulphate caused a more highly insignificant decrease in the brain total protein content during and after stopping the injection
