Abstract
:
Yttrium tetragonal zirconium polycrystals (Y-TZP) ceramic materials are recently introduced for fabrication of all-ceramic fixed partial dentures and ready made ceramic posts. In this study, custom-made all-ceramic post and core will be fabricated using Y-TZP materials using Cercon system (DeguDent, Germany). Our objectives are to: determine fracture resistance of teeth restored by new custom-made all-ceramic post and cores, compare it with that of teeth restored by esthetic post and core foundations, assess the fracture mode of each system and compare fracture resistance using conventional and adhesive cements. One hundred endodontically treated maxillary central incisors will be decoronated and divided into control and experimental four groups (n=20). These groups will be restored by custom-made NiCr post and core foundations, carbon fiber post/composite core foundations, prefabricated zirconium dioxide post/composite core foundations, zirconium dioxide post/ceramic core foundations, custom-made Y-TZP post and core foundations respectively. All groups will be subdivided into two subgroups. The posts in subgroup (1), will be cemented with adhesive resin cement while in subgroup (2) will be cemented with glass ionomer cement. All foundation restorations will be covered by all-ceramic crowns. Each crowned specimen will be subjected to load at 45 degree angle until the fracture occurs. The load will be recorded and analyzed. Two-way ANOVA will be used to analyze the data and Scheffe test will be applied.
