Abstract
:
Aluminum (AL) is widely used in our daily life in the Arabian countries and worldwide. The exposure to aluminum is inevitable due its presence in many manufactured foods, medicines and is also added to drinking water for purification purposes. Vitamin E (VE) plays an important role as an antioxidant and is consequently expected to protect tissues from damage caused by reactive oxygen metabolites. Selenium (SE) is a trace mineral, generally recognized for its great importance to human health, and protects the cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. The present study will be carried out to investigate (1) the alterations in histological, biochemical parameters, fetal brain and liver induced by aluminum chloride (AlCl3) which will be given during pregnancy and (2) the role of vitamin E and selenium in alleviating the negative effects of aluminum. Female rats will be divided into two main groups control (C) and Aluminum (AL). Aluminum group will be exposed to (150 mg AlCl3/kg BW/ day) for 30 days before mating. After occurrence of pregnancy each main group will be subdivided into 5 subgroups (10 dams in each subgroup). Control will be subdivided into: (C) untreated, (C) + VE (100 mg VE/kg BW/day), (C) + SE (200 µg Se kg BW/ day), (C) +VE + SE, (C) + olive oil. Aluminum group will be subdividing into: (AL) untreated (150 mg AlCl3/kg BW/ day), (AL) + VE (100 mg VE/kg BW/day), (AL) + SE (200 µg Se kg BW/ day), (AL) +VE + SE, (AL) + olive oil. All test drugs will be administered through intragastric tube from first day of gestation to gestational day 20. Fetal brain and liver will be prepared for paraffin sections and stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and then morphometric measures will be carried out.
