Abstract
:
The aim was to establish cephalometric norms, based on the attractive facial features as perceived by Saudi population. The study was conducted in 3 stages. In the 1st stage, different lip prominences in different facial profiles were evaluated as perceived by the Saudi population. Profiles were divided into 4 groups. Generated profiles for each group were presented on laptop to people in different cities of the Saudi Arabia. They were asked to rank the images in an order of attractiveness. In the 2nd stage, the 5 most attractive profiles from the first stage were added together and were shown to people at random to choose the supernormal face that represents Saudis. In the 3rd stage, a sample of 50 Saudis having similar facial and dental features to the supernormal face was used. Records were taken for each subject. Cephalometric norms were established based on these supernormal subjects. Results indicated that Saudis prefer orthognathic face with average lip position in males and retrognathic face with retrusive lips in females. Separate norms were established for males and females which should be used in orthodontic treatment of Saudis
